1-day trip to Kalavryta with a sightseeing tour on the Rack Railway

On Saturday, 14 May 2022, the travel agency of KTEL Arcadia S.A. organised a 1-day trip to Kalavryta with a sightseeing tour on the Rack Railway from Diakopto to Kalavryta. On Saturday morning, we departed from Tripoli and via the National Road Tripoli – Corinth – Patras we arrived at Diakopto to take the Rack Railway and start at 09:52 a.m. for a beautiful route to Kalavryta. A wonderful proposal for an autumn escape and a unique route of about an hour, which starts from Diakopto, the rack railway crosses the Vouraikos gorge, passes through the village of Zachlorou and ends in Kalavryta. The route passes through the gorge next to the Vouraikos, the river that creates small and large waterfalls. At the location of Katarraktis, the waters of the river fall almost vertically and impetuously under the bridge of the line. As soon as we arrived in Kalavryta, our company's buses were waiting for us, with which we departed for the Holy Monastery of Mega Spilaio, Mega Spilaio is a historic monastery of Kalavryta. One of the most important pilgrimages of Orthodoxy in the Greek area, and also for a second monastery, the Holy Monastery of Agia Lavra. Then we returned to Kalavryta for coffee and food, and at 16:30 p.m. we departed for Tripoli. On the way back, we would make a stop for coffee at Planitero, in a unique landscape dominated by walnut trees, plane trees and impetuous waters around the sources of the Aroanios river.
