Kalamata – 22/03/2026
Programme
Our office, in collaboration with the Filiki Agkalia Association, organises a day trip to Kalamata with visits to two important religious and cultural landmarks of Messinia and free time in the city, which will take place on Sunday, 22 March.
First stop:
Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos Voulkanou
The most historic and largest Monastery in Messinia, built from 1625 on the slopes of Mount Ithome, in a natural environment of unique beauty with a view of the Messinian plain. The Monastery has a long national and ecclesiastical contribution and hosts the Holy and Miraculous Icon of Panagia Voulkaniotissa, as well as a multitude of Holy Relics of Saints. It is a place of deep spirituality and a point of reference for Orthodoxy in Messinia.
Second stop:
City of Kalamata
Free time for a walk along the city's waterfront, lunch, coffee and personal shopping.
Third stop:
Holy Monastery of Kalogreion Kalamatas
In the historic centre of the city, we will visit the women's Monastery, known for preserving the traditional art of weaving silk fabrics on old looms. The nuns continue an age-old art, which has been awarded distinctions in Greece and abroad. In the surrounding area of the Monastery, there is an exhibition space with authentic silk products.
