🌿 Palm Sunday at the Holy Monastery Loukous 🌿
Programme
Afternoon pilgrimage trip on Palm Sunday!
Departure 17.00 from Kolokotroni Square.
We attend the Service of the Bridegroom (Service of the early Monday morning), in reverence at the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour Loukous.
Free time at the Monastery and departure early in the evening for Tripoli.
The Monastery is dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Saviour and its foundation dates back to the early Byzantine times (around the 5th century AD), making it one of the oldest monasteries in the Peloponnese.
It was built on the ruins of an ancient temple, while in the area important archaeological remains have been found that are connected to the villa of Herodes Atticus, one of the most important Roman benefactors of Greece.
Over the centuries, the Monastery experienced prosperity but also destruction, especially during the years of Turkish rule, while it played a role during the period of the Greek Revolution.
Today it operates as a women's monastery, keeping alive its tradition and spiritual presence. It stands out for its catholicon with its notable frescoes, its peaceful natural environment and the special atmosphere it creates for the visitor.
It is a place where history, faith and nature coexist harmoniously, attracting visitors all year round.
