Sardinia – Corsica 8-day trip
Programme
Day 1: Thessaloniki/Athens – Olbia Sardinia
Arrival with an afternoon flight of Aegean to Olbia in Sardinia, a city of Phoenician origin, modern and populous. Installation in the rooms and a walk in its historic center where the Cathedral of San Simplicio, the archaeological museum and the church of Apostle Paul stand out.
Day 2: Olbia (Bonifacio) – Sartene Corsica
Road trip to the area of Santa Teresa di Gallura from where we will board the ferry boat to cross the straits of Bonifacio and reach the opposite coast on the island of Corsica.
The strategic position of the castle town is truly unique. Bonifacio is built in a water inlet-fjord with the rugged morphology of the land leaving you suspended between the vast blue and the equally blue horizon. Castles and walls define the landscape and open windows to the imagination behind the hermetically closed doors of the houses. It is connected to the epic of the Odyssey as it is suspected by many that it is the area where the Laestrygonian Cyclops lived. The acquaintance with the city begins with the impressive Citadelle, which today constitutes the historic center of the famous Upper City, and which we will approach with a special tourist train. The medieval picturesque alleys, the imposing bastions, the famous central street of the Two Emperors, since along it are the palaces that hosted Charles the 5th and Napoleon the Great, the Gothic Church of Saint Dominic, the largest church in all of Corsica, the famous stairs of King Aragon and of course the Esplanade of Saint François with the unobstructed view to Sardinia opposite are the main points of our sightseeing tour.
Immediately after, we will get to know the picturesque Porto Vecchio before we arrive late in the afternoon at our hotel in Sartene. Sartene is amphitheatrically built in the Rizanès valley, with granite stone-built houses and a picturesque atmosphere.
Day 3: Sartene (Propriano) Ajaccio Corsica
Continuing our hike in Corsica, we will stop for a coffee and a walk in the marina, in the coastal Propriano, a holiday resort of the Corsicans.
The Aikido that follows is the largest city and capital of Corsica. The etymology of the name is unknown and may come from the mythical hero Aïda. In the spring of 600 m. H is . It is referred to as Agatios, indicating that it may come from a Greek word. There in 1769 Napoleon Bonaparte was born and of course his home, Casa Bonaparte is also our top attraction. Our tour will focus on our historic city centre, where almost every step reminds us of this iconic personality of world history. The impressive squares of Fos and de Gol, the main street with the great public buildings and the impressive palaces of the nobles, the famous Cathedral of Our City and of course the Place Letizia, here where the house where Napoleon the Great was born and which today has been transformed into a museum dedicated to him and his life, will keep us of interest.
Day 4: Castelsardo – Algero Sardinia
Return by morning boat from Aikido to Porto Torres, Sardinia with our cruise on the island starting from the picturesque Castelsardo and its medieval castle built on the rock by the Dorias dynasty. In the afternoon you will find us in Algero for a walking exploration of the city founded in the early 12th century by the wealthy Genoese family of Doria. The narrow streets, the old port, the Cathedral and the Venetian architecture of the old city will be a pleasant revelation.
Its history is rich in conquerors such as the Aragons and the Catalans who led it to great economic prosperity, but also the Habsburgs and princes of Savoia who led it to economic and social downturn. And despite the blow it was hit by the bombings during World War II, it managed to get right and today it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. Free afternoon .
5th day: Algero (Bosa, Barumini Su Nuraxi) – Cagliari of Sardinia
Crossing today the west coast of the island through Oristano and Bosa we will stop at the archaeological site Su Nurasi, in the Barumini area. The archaeological pioneering in this area brought to light tools, ceramic vessels and stone vessels that were top finds in the study of the prehistoric period of the island. Stone towers with settlements of a period beginning in the 17th century. H is . It dates from the 6th century to the 6th century. H is . It confirms the existence of the Nugogi culture. Conic houses, of various uses, worship objects and settlements that housed political leaders of early social structures, survived on the island for more than 10 centuries until the Carthaginians conquered the area and handed it over to the last pre-Christian centuries to the Roman invasion.
Late in the afternoon we will arrive in Kaliri where we will spend the night.
Day 6: San Pedro (San Pedro)
Kaliari, which we will visit today and in the local dialect means "castle", is the largest city and capital of Sardinia. Between 1324 and 1848 it was the capital of the kingdom of Sardinia. Its monumental wealth with Art Nouneau buildings makes it worthy not only the title of the capital but also the cultural and spiritual city of Sardinia. Its Roman and Byzantine monuments, medieval fortifications and its archaeological museum will travel us into its rich past. A short distance from Kaliari is the village of San Sperate that we will visit immediately afterwards, which is characterized as an outdoor museum due to its imaginative wall paintings. Return to Cologne and free time
Day 7: Kaliari (Orgosolo, Mamoyanda) – Nooro wider region of Sardinia

It is one of the least populated mountainous areas in Europe, dominated by Mount Genarcet. This characteristic of course also gave the region the opportunity to preserve important elements of local dialects even today, and to keep the cultural and folkloric elements of Sardinia unchanged. We will stand in the village of Orgosolo, known for its murals with mainly political content as well as in Mamoyanda which stands out for its museum with the masks. Continuing we arrive in Nuoro to visit the Folk Museum which has rich collections of everyday objects such as clothes, jewelry, fabrics carved wooden crafts, musical instruments, household appliances and tools. Arrival late in the afternoon at our hotel in the wider area of Nuoro.
