Canary Islands
Programme
1 Day 1ATHENS/THESSALONIKI/LARNACA – LAS PALMAS
1st day: ATHENS/THESSALONIKI/LARNACA – LAS PALMAS
Gathering at the airport and flight, via an intermediate stop, to Las Palmas, the capital of the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Upon our arrival, we will have time for a walk with our leader to get to know the city. Transfer to the hotel that will host us, check-in and overnight stay.
2 Day 2LAS PALMAS (trip to MOGAN –MASPALOMAS – TEROR – AROUCA)
2nd day: LAS PALMAS (trip to MOGAN –MASPALOMAS – TEROR – ARUCAS)
Breakfast and departure with our leader for a highly interesting full-day trip on the island. Leaving Las Palmas behind, we head south towards the beautiful coastal village of Mogan (Puerto de Mogán). The large beach just before the port is surrounded by huge hotel complexes, but the village itself that follows immediately after retains its traditional character, with its all-white (like Cycladic) houses and tile roofs.
Next, we will visit Mas Palomas and its characteristic sand dunes, a protected ecosystem that gives the feeling of being in the center of the Sahara. As we return to the northern part of Gran Canaria, we will make a stop in the historic Teror, where it is worth seeing the basilica of the Panagia del Pino (Virgen del Pino), one of the most important churches of the Canary Islands and the patron saint of Gran Canaria. Similarly, we will be impressed by the church of Saint John the Baptist in Arucas, another beautiful village we will visit, before returning to our base in Las Palmas.
In the afternoon, we can take a walk with our leader in the historic center of the city to admire the colonial-style houses, the narrow streets, the area where the Cathedral is located, the Perez Galdós Theatre and other sights. Overnight stay.
3 Day 3LAS PALMAS
Day 3: Las Palmas
Free day to swim. The beaches of Las Canteras with gold
Sandside or enjoy your walks and get to know the city better. An excellent walk, which is very accustomed to the locals, is on the popular rocky street Paseo de las CanterasThis walk reaches up to the Auditorium Alfredo Klaus, the city hall in the futuristic shape.
It would also be a good idea to visit. The House of Christopher Columbus or the Museo Canario, the historical and archaeological museum of the city, the most important in the Canaries, and a plethora of exhibits showcasing the unique historical course of the islands from antiquity and first settlement, to the years of Christopher Columbus and the modern era.
Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
4 Day 4LAS PALMAS – TENERIFE (PUERTO DE LA CRUZ)
4th day: LAS PALMAS – TENERIFE (PUERTO DE LA CRUZ)
After our breakfast, we leave our hotel and head to the port of Agete for boarding the ferry of the shipping company Fred Olsen Ferries with our destination being Tenerife, the largest, most famous and most touristically developed island in the Canaries. The "island of eternal spring", as it is called due to its unparalleled climate, is full of contrasts and features a variety of landscapes in different areas: with bustling resorts, parks, picturesque towns-diamonds of urban elegance, Tenerife is a symbol of exoticism for Spaniards and Europeans.
Arrival and transfer to Puerto de la Cruz, the most vibrant part of the island, with the atmosphere of an old Spanish colony. This chic settlement is actually the first from which the rapid tourist development of the Canary Islands began. Transfer and check-in at our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
5 Day 5PUERTO DE LA CRUZ (trip to TEIDE mountain)
Day 5: Puerto de la Cruz (excursion to Mount Teide)
Our tour today is one of the most impressive tours and the most important on the island. We will start with a tour of the neighboring city Orthodoxy (Orotava), where you will see the Old Town with its special traditional architecture and houses with sophisticated
Balconies. Continuing, we cross the Orotava valley, with the distinctive tropical vegetation and through mountain roads we enter the The Canadian National Park (Cañadas) and we begin to approach the legendary volcano Teide (Teide), the highest mountain in Spain, as its peak reaches 3. It is 718 m. (There is an optional cable ride to the top, at an extra cost). The national park surrounding it with a plethora of endemic species is a lunar landscape, a “product” of lava and arouses horror with its earthly aura. From the north side, we can, when the weather allows, contemplate the so-called "seaclouds", a sea of clouds that usually surround the top of the volcano.
Contrasting this scenario, we inevitably think that those who argue that Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands are what is left of the legendary Atlantis, the peaks of the famous lost country that has been the travel (and not only) glass of humanity for centuries may not be wrong. from Puerto de la Cruz, and free time for which we suggest a walking tour with our leader to the Old Town and the Charo Square (Charco), where often musicians play the traditional purposes of the islands.
Day 6: Puerto de la Cruz
The next two days of our stay in Tenerife are free days to walk through the beautiful straits of Puerto de la Cruz, see the historic buildings, visit the picturesque market, something like an oriental marketplace, where exotic fruits are mixed with colorful fabrics and miniatures of folk art, or to take part in optional excursions and get to know more about the island. You can rent a car and explore the innumerable natural beauties of this tropical paradise: observing the unimaginably rich vegetation of Tenerife’s rainforests, it is impossible not to wonder if, besides the legend of the so-called Atlantis, Tenerife is the “home” and the famous garden of the Esperidians, as also the local religions want. In such a situation, it could well be
There are the rare and inaccessible fruits that only a half-god like Heracles could discover, thus fulfilling one of his twelve trades.
Alternatively, you can visit Santa Cruz, the island's mansion capital, or head south and choose for your dives some of the many beaches with the characteristic black, volcanic sand! If you prefer to spend more time relaxing in Puerto de la Cruz, you can visit the Loro Park, a very careful theme park that has emerged as the best (in all respects) zoological garden in Europe! Another good proposal is to take your bath in one of the specially designed seawater pools located on the shore.
Another good idea is to escape to Puerto Street Art, a street full of colours and images by the “street artists.” For whatever you need, our leader will be at your disposal.
6 Day 6PUERTO DE LA CRUZ (Tenerife) – Return flight
8th day: PUERTO DE LA CRUZ (Tenerife) – Return flight
Early in the morning, we will head to the airport, from where we will take the return flight via an intermediate stop.
